Abstract
We present a multipole based approach to characterize arbitrarily distributed magnetic nanoparticle (MNP) accumulations in biological tissue. The derived analytical relations allow for the determination of the MNP total amount and centre of mass. Furthermore, it makes the discrimination between spatially extended and point like MNP accumulations possible. The results allow the quantitative assessment of magnetic drug targeting success by MNP specific magnetic measurement techniques.
