Abana is the name of a river in the region of Damascus mentioned in 2 Kgs 5 : 12. Naaman, the commander of the Aramean army, is offended by Elisha’s instructions to bath in the Jordan in order cure his leprosy and disparagingly asks if the Abana and Pharphar in the region of Damascus are inferior to those in Israel.
