De Gruyter and Bibsam Consortium sign agreement for access and open access

May 3, 2018

On behalf of the Swedish Bibsam Consortium, the National Library of Sweden and De Gruyter have signed an agreement, which provides access to De Gruyter journals and includes default and immediate open access publishing.

The Swedish government has set a national goal that all scholarly publications resulting from research financed with public funds should be published immediately open access. De Gruyter's agreement with the Bibsam Consortium ensures 100% open access publishing for authors affiliated to the participating institutions.

For 2018, the subscribing institutions are Stockholm University, University of Gothenburg, Södertörn University, Chalmers University of Technology and the Royal Institute of Technology.

"To achieve a large scale transition to open access for research results, it is important that we are able to include both gold and hybrid open access publishing in our license agreements. The agreement with De Gruyter is an important step in this transition,” says Wilhelm Widmark, Library Director of Stockholm University and Vice Chair of the Swedish Bibsam Consortium Steering Committee.

"De Gruyter has been supporting open access publishing on an article, journal and book level for more than 15 years and our approach complements the Swedish government’s forward-thinking policy. We look forward to working with the Bibsam Consortium and its members to bolster research from Sweden," says Ben Ashcroft, Vice President, Sales and Marketing at De Gruyter.
